Funding

The Neural Bionics Lab is supported by competitive national and international research funding, enabling us to develop next-generation  neuroprosthetic technologies.

 

This support enables our team to pursue ambitious research at the intersection of neuroscience, neurotechnology, and robotics, with a particular focus on restoring movement and sensation in people living with neurological disorders and paralysis.

Our funding supports research across the full translational pathway, from fundamental studies of human sensorimotor functions and neural coding to the development and validation of implantable brain–computer interfaces, sensory feedback technologies, and intelligent bionic systems.

European Research Council (ERC)

BIONIC-DEXTERITY aims to restore manual dexterity after paralysis by developing bidirectional brain–computer interfaces that combine high-dimensional motor control with artificial touch and proprioception.

Chalmers Area of Advance: Health Engineering

Strategic funding supporting interdisciplinary research at the intersection of neuroscience, biomedical engineering and neurotechnology, enabling the development of new technologies for human–machine interaction.

International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) 

The fellowship enables early-career neuroscientists to visit the Neural Bionics Lab and gain hands-on training in human neural interfaces and neuroprosthetics.

DEXTEROUS-EXO investigates the combination of wearable robotics and sensory feedback to improve hand function after neurological injury, developing more intuitive assistive technologies for people with motor impairments.

The Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education (STINT)

The programme supports international postdoctoral research and mobility, strengthening collaborations and enabling emerging researchers to develop expertise at the interface of neuroscience and neuroengineering.

NEUROMORPHOSIS develops new approaches to high-fidelity tactile feedback for neuroprostheses, investigating how artificial stimulation can reproduce naturalistic representations of touch.

The Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) 

HFSP supports ambitious interdisciplinary research in the life sciences. The fellowship enables postdoctoral researchers in the lab to pursue innovative projects combining neuroscience, engineering and computational approaches.
