Engineering medical devices for restoring sensorimotor functions in people with disability


We develop mechatronic systems for restoring sensorimotor function, with a focus on peripheral nerve interfaces, prosthetic limbs, and wearable robotic systems. Our work combines advanced actuation, embedded sensing, control, and human–machine interfaces to create devices that can respond naturally to the user’s intended movements and physical interactions.


For peripheral neuroprostheses, we integrate neural signals from peripheral nerves with multi-degree-of-freedom prosthetic hands and limbs, developing closed-loop systems that combine motor control with artificial sensory feedback. In parallel, we develop wearable exoskeletons and robotic assistive devices that support movement and rehabilitation while adapting to the user’s residual motor capabilities.


A central goal is to move beyond purely mechanical assistance toward sensorimotor systems that actively sense, adapt, and interact with the human body, enabling more intuitive control, improved dexterity, and natural interaction with the environment.
